Who is Savion Nicareal?
His music, largely influenced by the Motown sounds of the Greats, and inspired by Gospel Legends both captivate, and overwhelmingly speak to a wide range of audiences. Listening to Savion’s music ignites a sense of freedom, responsibility, love, healing, and confidence once stolen, but now reclaimed. Savion understands clearly and embraces the opportunity to speak to the world concerning matters of the heart.
The Musician:
Born in Monroe, Louisiana 1991, later relocated to Seattle, Washington in 1998, Savion received his first drum set at the age of 7. Having been diagnosed at age 3 with a learning disability, Savion struggled immensely with his identity and the ability to maintain focus in school. Finding no acceptance, he buried himself in his music.
His music became his passion, his way of communicating in a world where he would otherwise have no voice. With a strong-willed mother, Sheri Johnson, along with his local church affiliations, Savion began to establish his own identity, his own mission, and personal expectations which further propelled him to spend up 16hrs/day in his studio. His time was filled with learning the art of producing, mixing and mastering, songwriting, and learning to play various instruments which have in turn profoundly aided in his musical development. As a result, he eventually taught himself well enough to play for local churches, charity events, and plays. Church became one of the driving forces for which a strong message of Love was developed in his music as well as his life.
While playing in his local church, Savion met a guitarist by the name of Sheldon Reynolds, most widely known as former lead guitarist and vocalist with the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire and in the mid 90’s his nomination for a Grammy for the popular song Sunday Morning, which Reynolds wrote and recorded with EWF. Savion played with Sheldon for over two years, and they soon became good friends. During that time, Sheldon was greatly credited with having imparted a vast array of musical tips and guidance as they communicated often. Sheldon still actively mentors Savion and openly offers his sagacious wisdom and personal experiences of the industry at will.
By the age of sixteen, Savion was playing piano/keyboard, lead guitar/acoustic guitar, organ, and saxophone, along with writing and producing his own music. Finally, after honing his unique sound over the years, he is now preparing to release his debut CD, self-titled, ‘SAVION’, which underlies the changes in his personal development that he has gone through over the years.
Influences:
Savion is keen to point out that everything he listens to directs his musical development in some way. However, he refuses to allow himself to be restricted to any particular genre of musical creativity. In fact his influences are vast, and would certainly include Kim Burrell, Sam Cook, Earth, Wind & Fire, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild, Chaka Khan, Jazmine Sullivan, John Legend, BB King, India Arie, Al Green, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, and Michael Jackson. Savion, with his powerful message, has more than proven that he will be a force to be reckoned with, and a welcomed addition to the music industry.
